Spent the weekend hiking Joshua Tree National Park with my beautiful wife. We weren’t sure what to expect as we made the drive into the desert from Orange County, but we knew we wanted to get away and we were certain Joshua Tree would provide that if nothing else. We were blown away by the vastness of this park and its rugged beauty. Do not overlook this gem tucked away in the SoCal Hi-Desert if you ever find yourself in the area.

The Ruins of Bombay

Bombay Beach in Southern California was once a community that offered a promising future as a vacation destination for the rich and famous.  Years later, the man made disaster that is the Salton Sea attracts few visitors and even fewer residents. Floods and increasingly saltier waters have eaten away most of this place. Beyond the few trailers that remain, you can find ruins of the Salton Sea’s better days tucked along the water’s edge. It really is quite the sight to take in.

Distracted Beauty

I spent the day yesterday in San Diego, wandering around Balboa park with my abnormally moody beautiful wife. I hoped to get some great shots of the architecture there, but the weather didn’t really cooperate. So, we made our way to Sunset Cliffs in the Ocean Beach area to find out how this spot got its name. 🙂

From the looks of the long exposure images I captured, you would imagine we were in total peace and solitude. Realistically, I battled to capture these images. The tide pools I captured the waves breaking over were quite the hot spot this Sunday evening, and none of the eco destroying, tide pool touching, oblivious to their surroundings tourists spectators had much care for what I may be working on! Ha. But I stayed patient and in the glimpses of peacefulness and escape that we were able to obtain, we were treated with moments like this….

Totally worth the 3 hour traffic jam scenic paced cruise back to Orange County.
